He began his career with the experimental theater company The Wooster Group, where he was discovered by Monty Montgomery and Kathryn Bigelow. He had his breakout role playing Eric Masters in William Friedkin's classic, To Live and Die in L.A. (1985). A year later, his performance in Platoon (1986) garnered him his first Academy Award nomination, and now today is one of the most prominent actors in cinema.
