Cruz, Yolanda

She studied liberal arts at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and received a Master’s in Fine Arts from the Film, Television and Digital Media Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is currently working on her first feature film, produced by Canana. She has participated in six editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). In the 3rd FICM, she participated with her short documentary Sueños Binacionales (2005); in the 6th FICM with her feature-length documentary Reencuentros: entre la memoria y la nostalgia (2008), which she won the CDI Award for the Best Indigenous Film or Video; at the 9th FICM she participated with her documentary Guenati’za: Los que vienen de visita (2003) and presented her short films Entre sueños (2000) and Reencuentros: 2501 migrantes (2009). The latter won the award for Best Documentary at the 29th Golden Eagle Awards of the Council on International Nontheatrical Events (CINE) and at the 12th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF). At the 10th FICM, she participated with her short fiction film Echo Bear (2012) and in the 11th FICM she presented El reloj (2013). Her short fiction film Las lecciones de Silveria (2014) was part of the 12th FICM's Official Selection. Her short fiction film Las lecciones de Silveria (2014) was part of the Official Selection of the 12th FICM.
