The story of a young man?s coming of age, this is also one of the most emotionally rich mother-and-son stories ever captured on film. Caouette directed this autobiographical video opus throughout his adolescence and adulthood, growing up in a turbulent household (his mother, diagnosed as mentally ill, was subjected to electroshock treatments, among other tortures) and blossoming into a precocious and gifted theatrical impresario, long before this (finished) film became the toast of festivals, from Sundance to Cannes. Mexico will no longer exist! A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.” See More
