Juan de Dios, a law student, is the son of Eloísa, a single mother who works hard as a seamstress to support her son. Through a classmate, Juan de Dios learns that he is the bastard son of Cecilio, a village cacique. He decides to go meet him, passing himself off as a bachelor and going to work at his father’s house, where he endures humiliation. Little by little, the affection between him and his cousin Lucía grows stronger.

This is the story of a gambler whose lover is a renowned philanthropist’s wife. At the same time, the gambler is cheating on her with another woman.
