González Mello, Flavio

He studied cinematography and screenwriting at the CCC film school in Mexico City. His work has been shown at more than 30 festivals around the world. His short fiction film Domingo siete (1996) won an Ariel award for Best Medium Length Fiction Film at the 38th Ariel Awards, Mexico, and 3rd Place in the fiction category in the 3rd National Screenwriters Competition of the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) and the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA). He participated with his documentary short film Siglo de Oro de la melancolía (2004), conducted by researcher emeritus Roger Batra, in the 19th Festival de l’Emission Scientifique de Télévision, France, and the 2nd Meeting of Audiovisual Creators Cámara 2003 of the Cultural Channel of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (TV UNAM), Mexico. This film won Best Documentary Screenplay at the 6th Silver Screen Festival, Mexico City, and Best Documentary at the 9th TV, Video and New Technologies Festival, organized by the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES, in Spanish), TV UNAM, the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP, in Spanish) and the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ, in Spanish). He participated in the 6th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) with his short fiction film 40° a la sombra (2008), which received various awards, including the Danzante Award for Best Iberoamerican Short Film at the 37th International Film Festival of Huesca, Spain; Audience Civerboto and Best Short Fiction Film at the 31st International Festival of New Latin American Film, Havana, Cuba; and Best Screenplay at the 4th Short Shorts Film Festival Mexico (SSFFMM). His short fiction films En vivo (2002), El número 23 (2002) and Medalla al empeño (2004) were broadcast on the program Los protagonistas. In addition to his work as a film director, he has been a screenwriter for various films and television series, including the feature film Pachito Rex: Me voy pero no del todo (2001) by Fabián Hofman, and the Mexican version of the television series Los simuladores (2009). He also has a long career in theater and stage directing, and his work has received, among other awards and grants, the Young Creators Grant of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), in 1992, 1998 and 2001; the National System of Art Creators Grant, in 2003, 2008 and 2012; and the Juan Ruiz de Alarcón National Drama Prize, in 2011. His theatrical works have been presented in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Japan, Argentina and Australia. They include: Cómo escribir una adolescencia (1984), Así como la ves... (1985), 1822, el año que fuimos imperio (2002), Lascurain o la brevedad del poder (2005), Obra negra (2007), Edip en Colofón (2008), El padre pródigo (2010), Temporal (2012) and Tirano Banderas (2013).
