García, Luis Mariano

He studied cinematography at the CUEC-UNAM film school in Mexico City. His work has been shown at more than 10 festivals around the world. He participated in the 7th Mexico City International Horror Film Festival (Macabro) with his short fiction filmLa espera (2008). His short fiction film, En la casa nueva (2009) was presented at the 7th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) in the Mexican Short Films for Children section, and the 10th Yucatan Mexican Short Film Festival. He won a Special Mention at the 4th Oaxaca Film Fest for his short fiction film Corre sin mirar atras (2011), which also participated in the 28th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG, in Spanish); the 16th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF); the Short Film Corner at the 67th Cannes Film Festival, France; and the 35th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, Havana, Cuba, among others. He received a grant from the 12th National Competition for Short Film Projects launched by the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) for the production of his short fiction film Monstruo (2013). He participated with this work in the 6th Morbid International Fantasy & Horror Film Festival, Michoacán, and in the Short Film Corner of the 67th Cannes Film Festival, among others, and received a nomination for a Silver Goddess for Best Short Film at the 43rd Silver Goddess Awards Ceremony, México.

¡Aoquic iez in Mexico! ¡Ya México no existirá más!

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”
