Calderón Rico, Mauricio

He has a Master's Degree in Screenplay and a Degree in Film and Television from CENTRO Design, Film and Television School, in Mexico City. He also studied architecture at ITESM, Estado de México Campus.

He participated in the 7th Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival (RMUFF) and in the 1st Toluca Historical Centre's International Film Festival (FICCHT) with his short film Levedad (2012).

His short film Arma Blanca (2013) toured more than fifteen international festivals, among them the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) 2013, Shorts Mexico 2013 and the International Latino Film Festival, LAKINO 2014 in Berlin. He received the Best Foreign Film Award at the New York City Shorts Film Fest, Best National Short Film at the FICSLP San Luis Potosí 2013, Best National Short Film and Best Short Film Screenplay at FIC VAGÓN Cd. Juárez 2013, Best Short Film Mexican Fiction at the FICH Hermosillo 2013, the International Short Film Jury Prize at Caloundra Fringe Film Festival 2014 in Australia and the Excellence Award in Building Film, Work Film Festival in 2015.

With his short film, Camino (2016), he has presented at the Festival and International Short Film Corto Creativo UDCI in Tijuana, Mexico 2016; At the DSP Film Festival University of Arizona, Phoenix, USA; In Solo Para Cortos, International Short Film Festival of Nou Barris in Barcelona, Spain, 2017; and was part of the Official Selection in Mexican Competition Neo Mex of SHORTS MEXICO 2017. He also won the award for Best Mexican Short Film in the Short Film Festival for social diversity Todos Somos Otros, CDMX 2016.

In addition, he is a professor at the Cinema and Television Design Center where he teaches Cinematographic Analysis. He was a FONCA Young Creative Program Fellow in 2013. He obtained the Encouragement of Cinematographic Creators from IMCINE in 2015, developing the feature film project Los Días Tristes. He is also a founding partner of the group of audio-visual creators Colmena. He edited the short film Dragonfly by director José Pablo Escamilla, Official Selection of the Berlinale 2017 segment Generations
