It’s often said that sons inherit the sins of their fathers. Eva suffers the opposite: her 15-year-old son, whom she sacrificed her career to raise, has murdered several of his classmates. Haunted by all the unanswered questions about her child’s crime, she expresses her thoughts in letters to her absent husband, desperately seeking some kind of forgiveness or redemption that may never come.

Set in and around a Glasgow housing estate, the film is based on personal memories and early experiences: a triptych of moments of reflection and loss in one girl’s childhood and adolescence.

Twenty-one-year-old Morvern Callar lives in a small coastal town in western Scotland, where she works in a supermarket. When she returns home from work to find that her boyfriend has committed suicide, she appropriates his unpublished novel and uses funds from his bank account to fly to Spain with her best friend.
