Within the framework of the celebration of the 200th anniver-
sary of Mexican Independence and 100th anniversary of the Mexi-
can Revolution, the Mexican Film Institute and the Nacional
Chamber of the Telecommunications Industry and Information
Technologies (CANIETI), under the direction of Luis Téllez, Karla Castañeda, Rigoberto Mora, René Castillo and Rita Basulto, produced 26, one-and-a-half minute animated film capsules. Each one describes daily life in 1810, as well as in 1910. The title of the project is Fate, Wit and Short Stories of the Independence Movement and the Revolution. The Morelia Internacional Film Festival will screen the following film capsules within the Fate, Wit and Short Stories of the Independence Movement and the Revolution program.

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”

As a teenager, Ziuta weathered exile with fortitude and determination, saving her mother and other relatives from perishing in their flight. Despite the horrors and scarcity she endured, she upheld a grateful outlook on life.
