While a fortress is under siege by the Turkish army, the townspeople are in a theater watching a play based on the life of the notorious tall tale teller Baron Munchausen. The “real” baron suddenly appears and asks to tell his version of the story. He begins an hallucinatory journey, accompanied by Sally, the theater director’s young daughter, to try and get the necessary support to save the city from the invaders. The film is inspired by the stories of the famous Baron Munchausen, a kind of Don Quijote of the 18th century, famous for his fantastical journeys.

The Monty Python team tries to answer these questions through a comical series of sketches that explore the seven mythical ages of humanity, from birth to death. This film is the last of the Monty Python film series, but it is at the same time a return to the first works, with a narrative structured in a nonlinear way.
