2010 | Color | 100 min It is the last decade of the 18th century in New Spain. Mexico City is inhabited by local and European residents. In this context, Jerónimo Marani, the court’s choreographer, Giovanni, his mestizo son, and Victoria, daughter of the wealthiest family of the city and madly in love with Giovanni, live a life of love and hate, intrigues, ancient dogmas and dreams of freedom. The Mexican War of Independence is just a few years away. Laura is a young freelance writer who only leaves her apartment to go shopping. She is an inveterate optimistic who insists on seeing positive situations where there is nothing but dead-end streets. While she eats directly from a can she talks with her mother and describes to her the delicious food she claims to be eating. She also tells her that she is very close to her neighbors, who don’t even know she exists. Although her life is dominated by lies, cruel reality sets in.
