Dioses de México
2022 | B/N | 97:00

A creative documentary that delves into ways of resistance to modernization in rural Mexico, portraying the great diversity of many communities of Native Peoples and Afro-descendants throughout the country. It is a tribute to the human being, his daily labor, and to those who fight to preserve their cultural identity. We explore this “Lost Atlantis” where countless possibilities of existence continue to resist in the shadow of modernization, against that kind of progress which— marching at full speed— displaces any critical consideration on the direction and values to follow.

Mexico will no longer exist!

¡Aoquic iez in Mexico! ¡Ya México no existirá más!

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”
