Director, editor, productor, escritor y actor de cine y teatro, ha obtenido diversos apoyos por su trabajo, entre ellos, los Fondos Concursables 2008 del Ministerio de Cultura del Ecuador, para su proyecto “Teatro Ambulante”; y el Fondo Municipal de Fomento a la Investigación y las Artes (FOMART) del Municipio de Cuenca, en 2010, con el proyecto “Ritual Nocturno y el Secreto de Dios: dos cortometrajes de videoarte”. Ha participado, además, en diversas muestras y festivales alrededor del mundo como el 9° Festival de Cortometrajes Jameson Notodofilmfest, Madrid, España, donde presentó su cortometraje Catende (2010); el 8° Festival Transterritorial de Cine Underground de Buenos Aires, Argentina, con su cortometraje La sed (2011); y el 24° Maratón de Cine Fantástico y de Terror de Sants, Barcelona, con su cortometraje Pesadilla Rosa (2012). Ganó el Primer y el Tercer Lugar por sus cortometrajes La sed (2011) y Hombre que ríe (2011), respectivamente, en el 1er Concurso Latinoamericano de Cortometraje IMICH, Morelia. Trabajó como asistente de dirección en la ópera prima de Adrián González Camargo Enero (2013), seleccionada en el 11° Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM), y en Tiritas de papel (2012) de Yadira Mendoza, proyecto ganador del Concurso Michocano de Guión de Cortometraje en el marco del 10° FICM. Como editor, trabajó, entre otras obras, en el cortometraje de ficción de Aldo García Caballero, El último día (2012), participante en el 10° FICM. Juan Alberto ha trabajado, además, como actor en numerosas obras de teatro, entre las que destacan: Lucas y los fantasmas (2009), obra suya firmada como Blablablanquita; Final de partida (2009), adaptación de la obra de Samuel Beckett; y La ciudad sobre el agua (2012) de Manolo Salgado y Mabel Pettrof. Escribió, también bajo el seudónimo de Blablablanquita, los textos para teatro La última tecnocumbia en París (2012). Actualmente presenta con regularidad el monólogo Sobre el daño que hace el tabaco, a partir del texto de Antón Chéjov. Su ópera prima, en co-dirección con Adrián González Camargo, Andrea en una caja (2014), formó parte de la Selección Oficial del 12° Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM). Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult.
