Director, escritor, productor, editor y fotógrafo cinematográfico, comenzó a escribir guiones y obras de teatro desde la adolescencia. Ha participado en dos ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM). En el 5º FICM tuvo una presentación especial de su ópera prima, Año uña (2007), ganadora del Premio al Logro Artístico en el 48º Festival Internacional de Cine de Tesalónica (TIFF por sus siglas en inglés), Grecia. En esa misma edición del FICM, se proyectó su cortometraje de ficción La doctrina del Shock (2007), co-escrito por su padre, Alfonso Cuarón, y por la escritora, periodista e investigadora canadiense, Naomi Klein. Trabajó, otra vez con su padre, como co-guionista de su largometraje de ficción, Gravedad (2013), ganador de numerosos reconocimientos, entre ellos, siete premios Óscar en la 86ª entrega de los premios Óscar, incluyendo Mejor Director, Mejor Montaje y Mejor Fotografía. Gravedad fue la película inaugural del 11º FICM, edición en la que compitió con su cortometraje de ficción, Aningaaq (2013). Jonás recibió el Premio Cuervo Tradicional en el 12º FICM. Su segundo largometraje de ficción Desierto (2015) obtuvo el Premio FIPRESCI (Federación Internacional de la Prensa Cinematográfica) en la categoría de Presentaciones Especiales en el 40° Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto (TIFF) y se presentará en el 13° FICM. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult.
