10 · 24 · 15 Cronos by Guillermo del Toro Presented at the 13th FICM Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Jaime Garba (@jaimegarba) The Mexican Gothic Film Program presented by the 13th FICM in conjunction with the Cineteca Nacional, the UNAM Film Archive and Fundación Televisa, includes Cronos (1933) by the extraordinary Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. The emblematic film was screened at Cinépolis Morelia Centro. Guillermo del Toro has an impressive international film career. His most outstanding works include El laberinto del fauno/Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) and the big Hollywood productions Hellboy (2004) and Pacific Rim/Titanes del Pacífico (2013). His latest film, Crimson Peak / La Cumbre Escarlata (2015), premiered as the opening film at the 13th FICM. Cronos, Del Toro’s debut film, received the Mercedes-Benz Award at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival. It also won several Ariel Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best First Film. Curiously, this feature film was included in the list of the top 100 films of Mexican cinema, which a group of film critics and experts in Mexico made for the magazine Somos in 1994. The program is also complemented by a photographic exhibit during the 13th FICM, organized jointly with Fundación Televisa.
