10 · 29 · 21 Va por Diego, Miguel Flatow’s Debut Feature Presented at the 19th Morelia International Film Festival Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Pablo Rendón @pagusrendon As part of the Special Screenings of the 19th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), on the afternoon of Friday, October 29, in Room 3 of Cinépolis Morelia Centro, Mexican-American director and screenwriter Miguel Flatow presented his debut, Va por Diego (2021), the first movie filmed in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, and shot entirely with an iPhone. Va por Diego tells the story of Pablo and Diego, two brothers working as dishwashers at a bar and playing soccer in the afternoons. One day, on their way back home from a game, Diego is hit by a car and the driver flees. Pablo and his widowed mother are unable to pay for the surgeries necessary to keep Diego alive, which leads Pablo to recruit a team of seven eclectic friends to participate in a football tournament and win the $100,000 pesos prize necessary to save his brother's life. Miguel Flatow The screening was attended by producers Manuel Hoppenstedt and Paula Woods; Demián Barba, photographer of the film; Vania Torres, art director; Felipe Reyes, assistant director; and the actors Ricardo Gómez Giorgana, Rubén Lázaro and Luis Guillén. Flatow thanked Daniela Michel, founder and general director of FICM, for the opportunity to present the film at the festival. She also pointed out that it is the first production made entirely in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, filmed entirely with an iPhone 11 and starring non-professional actors. Luis Guillén, the star of Va por Diego, was visibly moved and thanked the audience for attending his acting debut. He said that his role in the film was an unforgettable experience and that being at FICM was something that he would never forget. Towards the end of the presentation, Daniela Michel highlighted Miguel Flatow's enthusiasm and talent and closed her speech by reaffirming the Morelia International Film Festival's commitment to serving as a platform for young filmmakers to present their first works.
