05 · 27 · 07 Carlos Reygadas wins Jury Prize at Cannes 05.28.07 Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Carlos Reygadas’ Stellet Licht (Silent Light) and Persépolis (Marjani Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud) shared the Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival’s 60th edition. Silent Light is a love story that takes place in a Mennonite community in the north of Mexico, and is spoken entirely in Plautdietsch, or Low German. A married man is drawn into an inner moral conflict when he falls in love with another woman. This is the first time the Jury Prize is awarded to a Mexican film director. Reygadas received the Camera D’or for the multi-award-winning Japón in 2002; Battle in Heaven competed for the Palm D’or in 2005.
