He also studied the language of film at the CCC film school in Mexico City. He was a member of the National System of Creators of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA), Mexico, from 2000 to 2003. He received, among other awards, the Ariel for Best Short Fiction Film at the 26th Ariel Awards Ceremony for Laudate Pueri (1983); and an El Herald Award for Best Debut Director at the 34th Heraldo de México awards ceremony for En el paraíso no existe el dolor (1998).
