Direction, Script, Production
José Esteban Pavlovich is a Mexican writer, producer, and film director. He began his professional career at the production company Fábrica de Cine, where he had the chance to work as a screenwriter and, later, as head of the content department, developing and writing feature films and television series. In 2020, he stepped away from the production company to pursue his own screenwriting and directing projects.
In 2018, he directed his first short film Bea (2020), which participated in several film festivals and received national and international awards. Subsequently, he made the short fiction film titled Una mano bajo la nieve [A Hand Beneath the Snow] (2022), which earned the Ojo for Mexican Short Fiction Film at the 20th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival. In addition to this, this short film had an international presence and was later screened alongside other works by the film director.
On the other hand, his short film 1974 (2026)—made with the support of the Programme for the Promotion of Mexican Cinema [FOCINE, by its acronym in Spanish, Programa de fomento al cine mexicano]—continues to explore characters defined by memory, loneliness, and the passage of time. Pavlovich is responsible for directing, writing, and producing this short film shot in Guaymas, Sonora, with Rosa María Bianchi in the starring role. Finally, in 2026, 1974 was presented in the Ibero-American Short Film Section at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
