He received for his short fiction film Mientras me muero (2003), the Golden Sun Award for Best Short Film at the 12th Biarritz Festival of Latin American Cinema and Cultures, France. He participated in the 6th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) with his first feature Bajo la sal (2008), which won six Silver Goddess awards at the 39th Silver Goddess Awards, Mexico, including Best Photography for Serguei Saldívar, Best Animation for René Castillo and Best Edition for Jorge García; and an Ariel for Best Actress for Irene Azuela at the 51st Ariel Awards, Mexico.
