Image Cizana López; Alma Yoari Direction Alma Yoari Cizana López is a Zapotec filmmaker originally from the Oaxaca Valley. She majored in Communication Sciences and subsequently expanded her documentary filmmaking training through programs such as Ambulante Más Allá [Ambulante Beyond] and CCC con Patas—an initiative associated with the Film Training Center [CCC, by its initialism in Spanish, Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica]. As a filmmaker, she has made the short films Trazos de la Resistencia [Traces of Resistance]—which explores graphic art and the social movements that took place in Oaxaca in 2006—and Mujer Raíz [Woman of Roots]—which portrays the experiences of women who continue to sustain their homes while facing migration processes.In collaboration with filmmaker Patricia Matus Alonso, she co-directed Ni racaladxe’ (Lo que yo quiero) [What I Want], a documentary short film made in the Zapotec language and produced with the support of the Incentive for Audiovisual Creation in Mexico and Central America for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Communities [ECAMC, by its initialism in Spanish, Creación Audiovisual en México y Centroamérica para Comunidades Indígenas y Afrodescendientes] from the Mexican Film Institute [IMCINE, by its acronym in Spanish, Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía].
