Emiliano Zapata, a young peasant from Morelos state, leads the revolt against Porfirio Díaz’ landowners. With the help of his brother Eufemio and his old friend Pablo, they organize the opposition movement. Fernando Aguirre, an anarchist who has declared his support for Francisco I. Madero, another of the president’s enemies, tries to unite the two leaders. The film is a sharp critique of the limits and corrosive potential of power, and is considered one of the most evocative films about the Mexican Revolution.
