The story of Francisco Núñez, a prayer-leader and flutist for the traditional chareos dance form in the Nanguè community of San Pedro Amuzgos, Oaxaca. Francisco was appointed for this role by the Nkwí nayà tónko, which in the Amuzgo language means “a person who awakes or appears on Earth with a gift.” Now an old man, Francisco fears that no one will follow in his footsteps as flutist after his death.
