Nénette, a female orangutan born in 1969 in the rainforests of Borneo, turns 40 years old. She lives at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, and is older than the personel who work there. Without question, she is the star — hundreds of visitors parade by her cage every day. The animal observes the human being. The human being observes the animal and tries to understand her and give meaning to each one of her actions. What is the meaning of ours?
