Arlo, the middle child, knows every requirement for earning a badge. Clara, the youngest, tries to figure out how she is related to them.

Beth, a single mother, has raised a smart almost-17-year-old daughter named Anna and built a loving life for them both. Anna meets Eric, a friendly stranger who lives 900 miles away, in an online poetry forum. She feels safe until he shows up on her doorstep unannounced. After some initial resistance, Anna falls for Eric, who turns out to be 28. When Anna decides to break the news to Beth, their world begins to fall apart.
