Emotionally distraught from losing custody of her son Georgie and running out of options to win him back, single mother Ashley becomes desperate when she loses her job. So when the opportunity arises to become a “coyote,” smuggling illegal immigrants over the Texas border, she takes it. The risky experience results in unforeseen consequences, as Ashley forges an intense bond with a young Mexican girl from Oaxaca who forces her to confront her past and look to the future.

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”
