Alfredo, an elderly engineer and inventor who works in a textile factory, attends a party given by his boss Ramón with his goddaughter Teresa. At the party, Teresa is admired by Enrique, Don Ramón?s nephew and the fiancé of his daughter Mercedes, and by the bachelor Vicente, cynical uncle of the Ferrers. The ambitious Teresa pretends to accept an offer of marriage by Alfredo?s younger brother Luis. But after being invited to a hunting party at the Ferrer?s hacienda, she seduces Enrique, causing a series of ill-fated liaisons in her obsession to climb the social ladder.
