In 1880 Paris, Monsieur Danglard is recruiting beautiful young ladies for his theater company. He plans to open a new cabaret in town, the Moulin Rouge, where the main attraction will be the can-can. Among the girls is the naïve Nini, who is seduced by Danglard, although her main admirer is Prince Alexandre. Lola, a jealous dancer who is in love with Danglard, makes things even more complicated.
