At forty, a musician decides to give up on his career and is hired as the concierge of a building. Matilda, recently retired, finds a crack in her living room wall. Her anxiety grows until she starts to believe that the building is going to collapse. The two people form a close friendship. The crack becomes a metaphor for life’s failures and how repressed feelings, like solitude and fear of the future, can come to the fore.
