Véronique is a young Frenchwoman who aspires to become a famous singer. Weronika lives in Poland, has similar career goals, and looks identical to Véronique, although the two are not related and are unaware of each other’s existence. Both women contend with the ups and downs of their individual lives. Véronique embarks on an unusual romance with a puppeteer who may be able to help with her existential dilemmas.
