While prosecuting a physician for the death of a client after an abortion, the district attorney discovers that his wife has been helping her friends and their maid’s daughter obtain and pay for abortions—and may even have been a client herself. The film is among the first to discuss birth control and family planning, as well as to resist censorship in cinema.
