Mexican films at the London Film Festival 2012

The London Film Festival 2012 will open with the European premiere of Frankenweenie, Tim Burton's most recent animated stop-motion film. The closing film will be the adaption of Great Expectations by British director Mike Newell, best known for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Donnie Brasco (1997) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). Among the most anticipated events of this London festival is the world premiere of Crossfire Hurricane, by Brett Morgen, a documentary celebrating 50 years of the Rolling Stones. The festival will also screen the winning film of the Palme d'Or in Cannes 2012: Amour by Michael Haneke.

Representing Mexico in London, together with these prestigious (and very anticipated) films, will be six Mexican-produced films with Mexican talent that have traveled around the world in the most important international festivals:

  • Después de Lucía, by Michel Franco (Mexico) will participate in the Official Competition.
  • Aquí y Allá, by Antonio Méndez Esparza (Mexico, United States and Spain) will participate in the “Journey” section.
  • Post Tenebras Lux, by Carlos Reygadas (Mexico, France, Germany and Holland) will participate in the “Dare” section.
  • La demora, by Rodrigo Plá (Mexico, Uruguay and France) will participate in the “Debate” section.
  • No, by Pablo Larraín (Mexico, United States and Chile) will participate in the Official Competition.
  • La Sirga, by William Vega (Mexico, Colombia and France) will participate in the “Dare” section.

Among the different categories and gala events, the London Film Festival includes the "Treasures" section, with material from the BFI archive. The institution's commitment to the preservation of filmic material will also be evident in its "Archive Gala," with the screening of Alfred Hitchcock's newly restored silent film, The Manxman (1929).
