Después de su formación en cine documental, empezó a preocuparle el contar historias de otros/as. Desde entonces se dedicó a acompañar procesos de video participativo y comunicación comunitaria en España, Túnez, México, Honduras y Guatemala. El acompañamiento de estos procesos le revela su propio proceso de construcción de identidad como mujer afrodescendiente, y ello la lleva a dirigir su primer largometraje documental: Negra. Durante ese proceso conoce la historia de Gaspar Yanga, un héroe afromexicano, lamentablemente, muy poco conocido. Por eso decide hacer un cortometraje de ficción animado inspirado en su biografía y titulado Nyanga, homenaje al cimarronaje de ayer y de hoy.
