David Buitrón (Zamora, Michoacán) es cineasta, guionista, director, fotógrafo y editor.
Estudió la Licenciatura en Cine Digital y Postproducción en SAE Institute México,
donde cursó su formación entre 2015 y 2017.

En 2020 dirigió el cortometraje documental Naufragio, seleccionado para la
decimoctava edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia. Dos años más
tarde realizó su ópera prima documental, La Colonial (2022), cuyo estreno tuvo lugar
en la vigésima edición del mismo festival, donde fue reconocida con el Ojo de la
Sección Michoacana.

Tras su estreno, La Colonial inició un destacado recorrido en el circuito internacional
de festivales. La película obtuvo el Premio SIGNIS en la trigésima quinta edición de
Rencontres Cinélatino de Toulouse, Francia; los Estímulos Churubusco y LCI
Seguros en la decimotercera edición del Festival Internacional de Cine UNAM
(FICUNAM); el Premio José Rovirosa al Mejor Documental Mexicano; el
reconocimiento a Mejor Largometraje en el Family Film Project, en Portugal; el premio
a Mejor Largometraje Documental en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Autor, en
México; y el galardón a Mejor Largometraje Documental en el Annual Copenhagen
Film Festival, en Dinamarca.

En 2025 presentó el cortometraje documental AKI, seleccionado para la trigésima
segunda edición del Sheffield DocFest, uno de los festivales de cine documental más
importantes del mundo.
