María Sojob nació en el pueblo tsotsil de Chenalhó, Chiapas. Estudió Ciencias de la Comunicación en la Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas y la Maestría en Cine Documental en la Universidad de Chile. Sus documentales han sido proyectados en muestras y festivales de Cine a nivel nacional e internacional, entre los que destacan Berlinale, Ficvaldivia, Edimburgh International Film Festival, FICMAYAB’, ganadora del Festival de Cine y Video Indígena de Morelia en 2016, con su documental Bankilal (El hermano mayor). En sus obras documentales, María explora formas narrativas y estéticas a partir de su cosmovisión como mujer maya tsotsil. En su desempeño profesional ha impartido talleres de cine y producción audiovisual comunitaria con colectivos y escuelas. Parte de su trabajo también ha sido acercar el cine a la niñez tsotsil, a través de la realización de video cartas y la proyección de éstas en diferentes espacios comunitarios. TOTE_Abuelo es su ópera prima.
