Ha participado en dos ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM), y ha recibido más de diez premios alrededor del mundo. Su ópera prima, Sobrenatural (1996), ganó los premios a Mejor Película y a Mejor Director en el 37° Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias (FICCI), Colombia, y cuatro premios Ariel en la 38ª entrega de los premios Ariel, México. En el 1er FICM presentó su cortometraje de ficción De jazmín en flor (1996), por el que obtuvo el Ariel a Mejor Cortometraje de Ficción en la 39ª entrega de los premios Ariel y el premio a Mejor Cortometraje en el 15° Festival des Films du Monde (FFM), Montreal. En el 4° FICM estrenó su largometraje de ficción Morirse en domingo (2006), ganador del premio a Mejor Película Internacional en el 8° Festival Internacional de Cine de Calgary (CIFF por sus siglas en inglés), Canadá, y de seis Diosas de Plata, entre ellas, Mejor Película y Mejor Director, en la 37ª entrega de las Diosas de Plata, México. Ha trabajado también en diversos proyectos de teatro, multimedia y publicitarios, entre los que destacan su puesta en escena de la ópera de Gian Carlo Menotti, El teléfono (1999), con la Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes (OCBA), y el espectáculo Una ventana a nuestra historia, en el marco de las celebraciones del Bicentenario de la Independencia de México en 2010. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. As a teenager, Ziuta weathered exile with fortitude and determination, saving her mother and other relatives from perishing in their flight. With a Super-8 camera that once belonged to his father and has remained untouched for 41 years, he plans to retrace the path of the shepherd: the journey of transhumance that his grandfather undertook in his youth, following now-forgotten coordinates.
