En el 1er FICM obtuvo el premio a Mejor Mediometraje Documental por XV en Zaachila (2002), nominada al Ariel por Mejor Cortometraje Documental en la 46ª entrega de los premios Ariel. En el 7° FICM compitió con su ópera prima Norteado (2009), por la que obtuvo, entre otros reconocimientos, el Premio Cine en Construcción de la Industria en el 56° Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, España; el Premio a Mejor Director en el 50° Festival Internacional de Cine de Tesalónica (TIFF por sus siglas en inglés), Grecia; el Premio KNF del Círculo de Periodistas Fílmicos en el 39° Festival Internacional de Cine de Rotterdam (IFFR por sus siglas en inglés), Países Bajos; y los premios Estrella de Oro, Grand Prix y Mejor Película en el 9° Festival Internacional de Cine de Marrakech (FIFM por sus siglas en francés), Marruecos. Su largometraje de ficción Carmín Tropical (2014) formó parte de la Selección Oficial del 12º FICM, donde obtuvo el premio a Mejor Largometraje Mexicano. Other Movies Mexico will no longer exist!
