Ha obtenido las becas MacArthur, Guggenheim, USA Artists y Alpert. Su obra ha recorrido más de 30 muestras y festivales alrededor del mundo y ha participado en cuatro ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM). Obtuvo una Mención Especial en el 3er FICM por su largometraje documental Al otro lado (2005), ganador además del premio a Mejor Documental en el 1er Puerto Rico International Film Fest & Convention (PRIFFC) y el premio Cultural Voice en el 6° Festival Internacional de Cine Latino de Nueva York (NYILFF por sus siglas en inglés), entre otros. Participó en el 7° FICM con su largometraje documental El General (2009), ganador del premio a Mejor Dirección en el 25° Festival de Cine de Sundance y del Tercer Premio Coral en el 31° Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, La Habana, Cuba. En el 9° FICM participó con su largometraje documental El velador (2011), que se presentó en la 43ª Quincena de Realizadores, Cannes, y por el que obtuvo, entre otros reconocimientos, el premio a Mejor Documental en el 13° Festival Internacional de Cine de Bratislava; el Premio SICA y una Mención Especial del Premio FEISAL en el 26° Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, Argentina; y el premio a Mejor Cinematografía en el 14° Encuentro Internacional del Documental de Montreal (RIDM por sus siglas en francés), Canadá. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. As a teenager, Ziuta weathered exile with fortitude and determination, saving her mother and other relatives from perishing in their flight.
