Estudió la licenciatura en Etnología en la Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH), Ciudad de México; una maestría en Antropología Visual en el Centro de Antropología Visual Granada (GCVA) de la Universidad de Manchester, Inglaterra; y una maestría y doctorado en Ciencias Antropológicas en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Ciudad de México. Su obra ha recorrido más de 40 muestras y festivales alrededor del mundo y ha participado en dos ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM). Obtuvo una Mención Especial en el 3er FICM con su cortometraje documental Últimas memorias vivas (2004). Compitió, en la misma edición del FICM, con su largometraje documental, en co-dirección con Adrián Arce y Diego Rivera Kohn, Voces de la guerrero (2004). Éste fue ganador del Premio SIGNIS a Mejor Documental, una Mención Especial y el Premio Serguei Eisenstein en el 3er Encuentro Hispanoamericano de Cine y Video Documental Independiente Contra el Silencio Todas las Voces, México, y del Premio José Rovirosa 2004 de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). En el 11º FICM participó con su cortometraje documental, también en co-dirección con Adrián Arce, Fuera de foco (2013), ganador del Premio a Mejor Documental en el 5º Festival do Filme Etnográfico do Recife (FFER), Brasil

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”

Ziuta travesías

Ziuta, a Polish Jewish survivor of World War II, was an extraordinary woman who sparked special devotion for her political commitment and her support for clandestine struggle. As a teenager, Ziuta weathered exile with fortitude and determination, saving her mother and other relatives from perishing in their flight. Despite the horrors and scarcity she endured, she upheld a grateful outlook on life.

Oskar Alegría embarks on a journey to recover the past. With a Super-8 camera that once belonged to his father and has remained untouched for 41 years, he plans to retrace the path of the shepherd: the journey of transhumance that his grandfather undertook in his youth, following now-forgotten coordinates. The result is a film that delights in the search —as well as the many detours along the way.
