Lila Avilés was Presented the Cuervo Tradicional Award in Recognition of her Career at the 22nd FICM

Mexican director Lila Avilés received the Cuervo Tradicional Award at the 22nd edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

Along with Daniela Michel, founder and director of the festival, Alejandro Ramírez, president of the festival, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, vice-president of the festival, and Ramiro González, brand ambassador, Avilés took the stage to the applause of the audience.

The award, which celebrates the trajectory of Mexican filmmakers, celebrates 17 years as an ally of the Festival and has supported the work of many of our country's creators. Lila Avilés has established herself as one of the most important directors in Mexican cinema in recent years. She is a multiple Ariel Award winner for her films La camarista (2018) and Tótem (2023), both of which won the Ojo for Best Mexican Feature Film at FICM.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel thanked the director for being a friend of the festival and for coming to Morelia to present her films: “We find your cinema moving. We are very happy that your stories break down barriers and that your films travel to other places to represent Mexican cinema. Avilés had a few words for the festival and its audience: “I am very grateful to this festival. I am a filmmaker, but above all, I am a filmgoer [...]. I take this award with me in my heart. Long live cinema and long live the Morelia Film Festival."
