Las elegidas by David Pablos To Be Presented at FICM

FICM is pleased to announce that Las elegidas /The Chosen Ones, the most recent work by Mexican director David Pablos, will be shown for the first time in our country in a gala event at the 13th FICM. Las elegidas participated in the Un Certain Regard section of the 68th Cannes Film Festival and will be distributed by Videocine.

The film is a co-production between Mexico and France, produced by Pablo Cruz and executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, through their production company Canana. Las elegidas addresses the problem of trafficking of women through the story of two teenagers, Ulises and Sofía, who are in love.

Following its successful presentation in Cannes, Las elegidas will be shown at the 13th FICM – a festival that has always welcomed the director with open arms. In an interview with FICM in Cannes, Pablos said: “Morelia has been like a home. I am very fond of it because I think all my films have been presented there, everything that I’ve done. I feel a very special affection for the festival and I think it has an excellent program and promotes filmmakers a great deal.”

Counting Las elegidas, Pablos has shown five films in Morelia. His thesis for the CCC film school, La canción de los niños muertos (2008), received the award for Best Fiction Short Film at the 6th FICM and was presented at the Critics’ Week during the Cannes Film Festival as part of a special agreement with FICM. Pablos’ first feature film, La vida después, competed in the Official Selection of the 11th FICM and received the prize given by Cinépolis Klic. In that same edition of FICM, Pablos presented two short films outside the competition: 20 y + por el arte, Neza York and 20 y + por el arte, Hacia la cumbre del Izta. Both are part of the series 20 y + por el arte (2013), directed by Pablos and produced by Canal 22.

For FICM it is an honor to include the work of this distinguished filmmaker in the program of its 13th edition.
