Gravity, by Alfonso Cuarón, to open 11th FICM

We are very pleased to announce that Gravity, by well-known Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón, will open the 11th edition of FICM. Cuarón will visit Mexico to present his film and to attend an international press conference in both Mexico City and Morelia, the capital of the state of Michoacán.

Daniela Michel, director of FICM, said, “It’s a great privilege for the festival to have Gravity as our opening film. Alfonso Cuarón is a very respected filmmaker and loved by FICM. We feel very honored to present his most recent work.”

Directors, such as Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh, Tommy Lee Jones and Alejandro González Iñárritu have inaugurated previous editions of the festival.

Gravity

Oscar winners Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) and George Clooney (Syriana, The Descendents) star in Gravity, an exciting thriller that pulls you into infinite and relentless space. The film is directed by Alfonso Cuarón, nominated for an Oscar for Children of Men.

Bullock plays Doctor Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first mission aboard a space shuttle, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowaalsky (Clooney), commanding his last flight before retiring. But in an apparently routine mission, disaster strikes. The shuttle is damaged, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone – adrift in space, spinning around in total darkness.

The deafening silence tells them that they have lost all contact with Earth…and whatever hope of being rescued. As fear turns into panic, every breath of air uses up what little oxygen they have left. But the only way home may be still beyond, into the frightening immense space.

Gravity was written by Alfonso Cuarón and Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman (“Harry Potter” films). Chris deFaria, Nikki Penny and Stephen Jones are the executive producers.
The team behind the camera include photography director Emmanuel Lubezki (Children of Men, The New World, The Tree of Life), who has been nominated several times for an Oscar; production designer Andy Nicholson; editors Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger; and costume designer Jany Temime (“Harry Potter” films). Oscar nominee Tim Webber (Children of Men, Batman: The Dark Knight) was the visual effects supervisor. Composer Steven Price did the musical score.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents Gravity, an Esperanto Films/Heyday Films production, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. The film will have its Mexico premiere on October 18, 2013, in 3D, 2D and IMAX and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.
