Documentary filmmaker, researcher, and curator. She has an MA in art history, focusing on film studies, from the UNAM. She is currently the general director of Ambulante, having participated on its programming team since 2016. Her work explores documentary cinema, collaborative practices, pedagogical curation, and many different forms of social impact through art. She was the founder and programming director of BorDocs Foro Documental on Mexico’s northern border from 2003 to 2013. She has served on the juries of numerous international film festivals and as an evaluator for multiple IMCINE competitions.Martiñez del Cañizo has taught at the Ibero-American University and the Autonomous University of Baja California. She has also led workshops on documentary film, programming, and cultural mediation in various countries. She was recently invited to deliver a talk on film programming at the Locarno Industry Academy in Bogotá. Through the Cuarto Propio label, she has made numerous feature and short films using collaborative methodologies, including El hogar al revés (2014), Niños héroes (2020), Que suene la calle (2006), and Ciudad Recuperación (2005), which have screened at international film and contemporary festivals in multiple countries and won a range of awards. She has received fellowships from FONCA (Young Artists and Cultural Joint Ventures) and support from different IMCINE funds.She is the author of the chapter “El giro pedagógico en el cine etnográfico: Dominique Jonard y la animación colaborativa,” included in the book Redescubriendo el archivo etnográfico audiovisual, published by the UAM and Elefanta, as well as “Vuela, angelito: excavaciones fílmicas en la memoria familiar,” in Cuerpo y cámara: La experiencia documental mexicana (2000-2020), publishedby the UABC.
