Congratulations to the whole El buzo team for this great distinction!

EL-BUZO El buzo by Esteban Arrangoiz

El buzo is part of the Berlinale short film competition, which is made up of 25 films from 21 countries. All films compete for the Golden Bear and the Silver Bear, as well as for a nomination for the European Film Awards and, for the second year running, the Audi Short Film Prize for 20,000 euros. On the festival short film jury are: Sheikha Hoor Al-Qasimi, curator and director of the Bienal Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates; the Greek curator and writer Katerina Gregos, and the Israeli filmmaker Avi Mograbi.

The Berlinale’s short film curator Maike Mia Höhne said: “Placed together, the films at Berlinale Shorts 2016 constitute one body of work, a cinematic essay – providing scope for an endeavour that reaches far beyond the individual film: The longing for arrival is reflected in many of the selected films – regardless of where in the world they come from. Everyone wants to arrive.”

Berlinale Shorts 2016 includes another Mexican film, Los murmullos (1976) by Rubén Gámez. This short documentary, which was part of a wave of Latin American cinema of social criticism, will screen out of competition.
