With this invitation from the Critics’ Week, Daniela Michel will become the only Mexican to have been a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival on two occasions. In 2011, Michel was the first director of a Mexican film festival to be part of the official jury at Cannes when she was invited to participate in the Un Certain Regard section. “I’m very excited and honored to be part of the jury at the Critics’ Week of the extraordinary Cannes Film Festival,” the FICM general director said. “The Critics’ Week’s mission is fantastic and it will be very rewarding to see the works of new film talents around the world. I’m very grateful to the Cannes Festival for this invitation and for giving me the opportunity to have this invaluable experience.” British filmmaker Andrea Arnold, known for her feature films Red Road (2006) and Fish Tank (2009), will preside over the jury at the Critics’ Week 2014. The jury will also include: Daniela Michel, director of the Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico); Fernando Ganzo, editor-in-chief of So Film España (Spain); Jordan Mintzer, film critic (United States) and Jonathan Romney, film critic (England). Arnold and the members of the jury will select one of the seven feature films in competition to receive the Critics’ Week Nespresso Grand Prize. Created by the French Union of Film Critics in 1962, the Critics’ Week is dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging talents, programming only first and second works at the Cannes Festival. It has opened the doors to directors of the stature of Bernardo Bertolucci, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wong Kar Wai, Ken Loach, Barbet Schroeder and Guillermo del Toro, among many others. Since its first edition in 2003, FICM has had an important partnership with the Critics’ Week. A selection of the films from the Critics’ Week is presented each year at FICM, with the directors attending. At the same time, the Critics’ Week presents a selection of the winning films from FICM. The 53rd edition of the Critics’ Week will be held from May 15 to 24. For more information, check out their official site: www.semainedelacritique.com This year, Daniela Michel has participated as a jury member at the International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias (FICCI) and the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF). The staff of FICM is very proud that in addition to these prestigious festivals, our general director has the honor to participate again in the Cannes Film Festival. Congratulations!
