Damián Alcázar Unveils Commemorative Armchair at the 20th FICM and Presents the Film EL PODEROSO VICTORIA

Michoacan actor Damián Alcázar unveiled his commemorative armchair at the Matamoros Theater during the fifth day of activities of the 20th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

The president, the vice president and the founder and director of the festival, Alejandro Ramírez, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel and Daniela Michel acknowledged the actor’s work o films such as Ciudadano Buelna (2013), by Felipe Cazals; El Infierno (2010), by Luis Estrada, and now, El Poderoso Victoria (2021), by Raúl Ramón

“At the festival, when we want someone to continue to be a regular attendee, we give them a surprise,” Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel said before the actor unveiled his commemorative armchair with Daniela Michel.

The armchair will be placed in room 4 of Cinépolis Centro, "where you will always have a place whenever you want to come back," Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel said, and added, "With this, we want to honor your friendship, your career, your support for the festival, your support for Mexican cinema, your commitment to culture, and your love for Mexico."

Damián Alcázar thanked the three directors for the acknowledgement and for making FICM possible: “You know that I am a pure heart, so long live Mexican cinema and long live cinema in Michoacán, and Michoacan cinema!”

Then, the filmmaker Raúl Ramón presented his film El Poderoso Victoria (2021) and thanked FICM for bringing his film to a larger audience, “but particularly Daniela Michel, because she was the first person who had faith and bet on the work of this humble director.”

In El Poderoso Victoria, set in 1936 in a Mexican desert town, a young railroad mechanic sees his dream of becoming a machinist cut short when the train route that connects his remote town with civilization is closed. He is then faced with the dilemma of emigrating to the United States and giving up his roots and the love of his life or helping a colorful group of residents who refuse to leave their home with the most insane plan: building their own train.
