Cine para todxs 2023: Ana and Bruno by Carlos Carrera

The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) presents Cine para todxs 2023, a program of exhibition of Mexican, contemporary and classic films, which have marked the history of national cinema, in community spaces.

All the films presented in this program have been made by filmmakers who have been part of past editions of the FICM, like Ana and Bruno (2018), by Carlos Carrera.

This edition of the program, which will take place from July 31 to October 8, 2023, has the valuable support of the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) through the Fomento al Cine Mexicano (FOCINE) program.

The animated film is about Ana, a curious girl who escapes from a psychiatric clinic in search of her father to save her mother. With the help of strange and funny fantastic beings, who she meets in that place, she goes on a journey full of exciting and moving adventures.

The film was the closing film of the 15th Morelia International Film Festival. In addition, it received the award for Best Ibero-American Animated Feature Film at the 2018 Quirino Awards, as well as Best Animated Film at the Ariel Awards. It was part of the Official Selection of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2017. 

About The Director

Carlos Carrera was born in Mexico City in 1962. He studied Communication Studies at the Universidad Iberoamericana, and filmmaking at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. He has made animated short films since the 1980s, which attracted attention for their quality. 

His first film, La mujer de Benjamín (1991), won the Ariel Award for Best Debut Film in 1992, and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Original Story and Best Screenplay for Cinema. His animated short film El héroe (1993) won the Palme d 'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1993 and the Ariel for Best Animated Short Film in 1994.

In 1996, he received the Ariel awards for Best Director and Best Picture for his film Sin remitente (1995), and in 1999 he won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for his film Un embrujo (1998). His works are characterized by digging into the dark side of the human condition.

Where Can You Watch It?

Ana and Bruno (2018) can be watched through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Filmin Latino streaming platforms, as well as on Google Play Movies for $80 MXN.

The movie will be screened in several states of the country between August and September. These are the screenings scheduled as part of Cine para todxs:

  • August 21 at 5:20 p.m. | Cine Club en Cartelera, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. 
  • August 30 at 4:30 pm | Teatro Mariano Matamoros in Morelia, Michoacán. 
  • September 8 at 5:00 pm | Cine Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin, in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. 
  • September 23 at 4:00 p.m. | Museo Arocena de Torreón, Coahuila. 
  • September 29 at 6:00 pm |Cine Bolomchon in San Pedro Chenalhó, Chiapas.
