ADOLFO DOMÍNGUEZ: EL ECO DE OTRAS VOCES Arrives at the 24th FICM

The feature film Adolfo Domínguez: El eco de otras voces (2024) was presented during the 24th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). The screening was introduced by Daniela Michel, founder and director of the festival, and Adriana Domínguez, the film’s director and executive chair of the Adolfo Domínguez company.

Domínguez was greeted with loud applause by the audience at the Matamoros Theater. “Adriana is going to present a film about the legacy and all the contributions that Adolfo Domínguez has made,” Michel commented.

“Thank you so much for being here today, and thank you for creating this festival—it’s truly incredible. This is my first time in Morelia, and I am absolutely fascinated by the city,” Adriana Domínguez replied to Michel.

The director’s motivation for making this documentary about her father stems from her deep admiration for him; she describes him not only as an exceptional entrepreneur, artist, and designer, but, above all, as an incredible father.

“Those of us who know him very closely understand that his success is a direct result of who he is. It has always struck me as a shame that my sisters and I are the only ones privy to these life lessons,” she added.

The Spanish filmmaker highlighted her father’s profound passion for cinema and literature—a key reason why she chose to immortalize his legacy through film.

“I tried to have someone else direct it; I approached two filmmakers who I felt could offer a beautiful, intimate perspective—someone who could truly understand him—but they were already committed to their own projects. Ultimately, I realized that if I entrusted it to someone else, they would only capture a small fraction of who my father really is,” explained Adolfo Domínguez’s daughter, as the screening began.

Adolfo Domínguez: El eco de otras voces explores the unique and remarkable life of one of the most renowned designers in history: Adolfo Domínguez. The film reconstructs his life and career, shedding light on the less-known aspects of his story: his childhood in Trives, his time in a Francoist prison, and his university years in Paris.
