A Stone's Throw Away at the Gramado Film Festival

The festival has four sections in competition: Brazilian features, foreign features, Brazilian short films and "Gaucho" films. Each year, it pays tribute to outstanding personalities in the Brazilian film industry. This year, the festival will honor actress Fernanda Montenegro, filmmaker Domingos Oliveira and actor, director and producer, Selton Mello.

A Stone's Throw Away, written by Hiriart and Gabino Rodríguez, who is also the main character of the film, tells the story of 21-year-old Jacinto, who is bored with life as a shepherd in northern Mexico. One day he finds a keychain on the ground and sees it as a sign, envisioned in his dreams, that he will go on a trip that will take him hundreds of miles away.  Little by little, the trip becomes a rite of passage into a new stage of his life.

Sebastián Hiriart, a graduate of the New York Film Academy in 2001, has worked as a director, actor, photographer, assistant and cameraman in 15 feature films, TV programs and short films. He has worked with Nicolás Pereda -- winner of the Best Feature Film FICM 2007 with his debut Donde están las historias? -- as a second cinematographer in Summer of Goliath (Verano de Goliat) (2010) and as a producer in Interview with the Earth (Entrevista con la tierra) (2008).

Gabino Rodríguez has acted in at least 20 features and short films with directors, including Nicolás Pereda (Perpetuum Mobile, 2009 ), Luis Estrada (El infierno, 2010), Carlos Carrera (De la infancia, 2010), María Novaro (Las buenas hierbas, 2010), Carlos Cuarón (Rudo y cursi, 2008) and Marisa Sistach (Nadie te oye: perfume de violetas, 2001, La niña en la piedra, 2006, El brassier de Emma, 2007).?
