Image Herrero Garvin, Laura She graduated as a Technical Telecommunications Engineer with a specialty in Image and Sound from the Castilla-La Mancha University, in Spain; the Technische Universität Graz, in Austria; and the Sonora Institute of Technology, in Mexico. She later took diverse classes at the San Francisco Film Society and at the Berkeley Community Television, in California; and in 2010 she took an intensive course in Film at the Mexican Association of Independent Filmmakers (AMCI). She is partner and co-founder of La Sandía Digital, Laboratorio de Cultura Audiovisual A.C., where she works as director, cinematographer and editor. She directed, produced and edited the documentary short film Mirando al cielo (2011), which was selected at festivals such as the Bogotá International Film Festival, in Colombia, and the International Human Rights Film Festival of Bolivia, in Bolivia, among others. Her short film Nora, el sabor de su boca (2012), co-directed with Carolina Corral, won the 3rd place at the “Gender and Justice” documentary contest in Mexico, and it was selected in festivals such as the Festival de Cine de Mujeres de Santiago, in Chile, and the Human Rights Film Festival of Bogotá, Colombia. That same year she presented the documentary feature film Son duros los días sin nada, Official Selection of the International Film Festival with Gender Perspective (MICGénero) and winner of the “Women” category of the Independent Documentary Film and Video Latin American Meeting: All Voices Against Silence. In 2013, she presented Mouvement and in 2014, Acuario; both were part of the Official Selection of the Québec City Film Festival, in Canada. Her first feature film El Remolino (2016) is part of the Official Selection of the 14th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), of the Oaxaca International Film Festival, of the Ambulante, Documentary Tour and of the Camden International Film Festival, in the United States. El Remolino was also presented at the Festival del film Locarno and it received a Special Mention from the jury at the Merida and Yucatan International Film Festival (FICMY). She is currently studying a masters degree in Documentary Creation at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. She is also in production of La Mami, her latest documentary feature film, selected to participate in the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum of the San Sebastián Film Festival.
